5 Mistakes To Avoid If You Are A Gym Newbie

Summer body is something we all wish for. However, the most difficult part is getting in shape. Now, many of you want to have that beach body which you have always dreamt about; but it is easier said than done.

One needs to work out in order to get in shape. If you are someone who has bought a gym membership for the first time, then try to avoid these mistakes while working out:

#1. Incorrect weights:

It is better to leave your ego at the door when you enter a gym. Just because someone is using a higher weight than you, it doesn’t mean that you will start lifting the same to make a point. Stick to the weight that allows perfect technique in order to avoid injuries.

#2. Incorrect posture & technique:

When it comes to technique, always remember what Abraham Lincoln said, “If I had six hours to chop a tree, I’d spend the first four hours sharpening the axe.” There is no point in sweating it out if your postures are incorrect.

Exercises like squats and deadlifts require proper technique and it should be practised with utmost efficiency. Make sure to consult your trainer regarding posture and technique.

#3. Too much rest:

You are ruining your results if you are busy with your phone between sets. There should be a proper work/rest ratio if you want to have a killer work out session.

#4. Ignoring nutrition:

“Abs are made in the kitchen”. You cannot get in shape simply by going to the gym.  If you are looking to lose fat, then you need to reduce your calorie intake.

The opposite needs to be done if you are looking to gain muscle mass. You need to follow a proper diet with the proper nutrients in order to achieve the body of your dreams.

#5. More emphasis on cardio:

The best way to lose weight and gain muscle is through a mixture of diet, weight training and high-intensity cardio. However, there has always been a misconception that one can get in shape by running miles. There is no point in wasting your precious time by spending too much time on the treadmill.

#6. Taking steroids:

There isn’t a safe way of taking steroids. Seeing all those ripped bodies in your gym will be very tempting, but you need to understand that the damage of taking steroids will be permanent. A steroid is like a drug and it will only result in destroying your body.

#7. Ignoring sleep:

Sleep is critical to the recovery process, because while you are sleeping, your body is building muscle. Perhaps the biggest mistake which newbie’s make is not sleeping properly. A proper amount of sleep helps in improved performance, longer endurance and an overall better workout.

So what are you waiting for? Tie your shoelaces and start working out.
