Football Positions - Play Strategically!

Goalkeeper

They serve as the first line of defense, and they prevent the other team from scoring the goal. They must be smart, have good reflexes, and have the ability to make good, quick decisions.

Right & Left Defense

They defend the opposing team’s wide wingers. Backs must have really quick feet and play with physicality. They’re put in one-on-one situations where they must take the ball and force a pass.

The right back will join the offensive attack if their team is attacking the right side of the field, and the left back will join if the attack is on the left side of the field.

Right & Left Defense

Center Back

They are on the opposite sides of the penalty line close to the keeper. They protect the center of the field by preventing players from getting the ball there.

Defensive Midfield

They slow down the opposition from attacking the middle of the field and gaining possession. They do this by tackling attackers and gaining possession of loose balls.

Right & Left Wingers

Wingers main goals are spacing, creating scoring opportunities for others, pushing the ball up the field, and scoring themselves. They are on the touchlines to create space naturally.

They have to be really good all-around players with skilled passes and great shooting skills. They travel along the boundary, dribbling the ball and looking for good pass entries for others in the middle of the field.

Right & Left Wingers

Striker

Strikers only objective is to score goals. They don’t hold defensive responsibilities, i.e., they aren’t asked to run back and help. Strikers need to have stamina, good dribbling ability, and efficient shooters.

Attacking Midfield

They must be skilled dribblers as they pass the ball deep into their territory for a goal. They also need good vision, awareness, decision-making, and great passing skills.
