But you can be deemed offside even when you don’t touch the ball and are in an offside position when you interfere with play. Say, if a player is in the vision of the goalkeeper in an offside position, or pushes an opposing defender from an offside position.
A player can also be offside when he’s in an offside position when the ball is struck by a teammate and deflects off another player or the post and he then puts the ball into the back of the net.
A player can stand in an offside position and won’t be called offside if he does not interfere in play. He will also not be deemed offside if he touches the ball after it is passed by an opponent.

The offside trap is a tactic used by defending teams to catch their opposition’s attackers in an offside position. In the offside trap, the defensive line moves up the pitch in a straight line, together, before the ball is played which will leave the opposition’s attacker in an offside position.
The key to having a great offside trap is communication between the backline and a lot of hours in the training pitch to move as one.
