Learn how to avoid Tendonitis - the most common Sport injury
Tendonitis can occur as a result of inflammation or irritation in our tendons, which connect our muscles to bones. These can be either acute or chronic.
It is quite a common condition and develops from repetitive movements. Common tendonitis includes tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, swimmer’s shoulder, and runner's knee.
Movement for sports or jobs involves motions that you repeat over and over, which is the primary cause of tendonitis. Tendonitis can also be caused by sudden injury and some medical conditions.
Symptoms often start with swelling and a dull ache and can worsen when you move. Stiff joints, trouble with movement or hearing a crack while moving can also be early symptoms.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to identify bone damage, and X-rays with complete medical history can be used in a physical examination for a diagnosis.
To treat, start by avoiding the action that injured your tendon. Cold packs, physiotherapy, corticosteroid injections, and enough rest are other treatments.
Maintaining your posture for activities, avoiding playing through pain, getting enough time to recover, and using firm grips while picking objects are all essential methods to prevent injury.
