3v3 Basketball Rules | It is a form of the game where there are 3 players on each side. This form of basketball has been played in the streets and gyms across the world for a long time.
3v3 basketball is currently being promoted and structured by the sports governing body- FIBA.
1- Each team should consist of 3 players and 1 substitute. All 3 players must be on court when the game begins.
2-The game is to be played on a half-court, with one basket.
3- The game lasts for 10 minutes with sudden death at 21 points.
4- A 12 second shot clock is used.
5- Every shot inside the arc is awarded 1 point.
6- A coin toss should be held before the game. The winning team can choose to take possession of the ball either at the beginning of the game or first possession of a potential overtime period.
7- No Jump balls or alternating possession rule.
8- The clock should be stopped at dead ball situations or free throws.
9- Extra time will be granted if the scores are tied. 1 minute interval is allotted before the overtime starts. The first team to score 2 points wins.
10- A team is in a penalty situation after it has committed 6 fouls.
11- Fouls during shooting inside the arc shall be awarded 1 free throw. Fouls during the act of shooting behind the arc shall be awarded 2 free throws.
12- All technical fouls shall be awarded 1 free-throw and ball possession, while unsportsmanlike fouls shall be awarded 2 free throws and ball possession.
13- No free throws are awarded after offensive fouls.
14- Team fouls 7, 8 and 9 shall be awarded 2 free throws. The 10th and subsequent fouls shall be awarded 2 free throws and ball possession.
15- In the event of a jump ball situation, the defensive team shall be rewarded the ball.
16- Stalling or failing to play actively shall be a violation.
17- Each team is granted one time-out. A time out can be called by any team mate during a dead ball situation.
18- All time outs should last 30 seconds.
19- A team losing by default or tortuous forfeit will be disqualified from the competition.
20- If the defensive team steals or blocks the ball, it must return the ball behind the arc.
These are few of the rules that govern a 3v3 basketball game. This form of the game is simple and flexible enough for anyone to play anywhere at any time.
This game should be played more often in order to include individuals who think the sport is too complex and long. Thus, encouraging them to participate and develop a deeper interest in the game.
This version of the game is now being played professionally. On June 9,2017, 3v3 basketball was added to the Olympic Program.
