WHY SHOULD GIRLS PLAY SPORTS | While there are many reasons that girls should play sports, here are the 5 that are more significant. However, many times girls lose out on joining in sports which would improve their physical state and emotional as well.

Playing sports provide more advantages for girls besides having fun and staying fit. Sports upskill girls dedication, respect for others, how to de-stress, concentrate under tensions, set and achieve targets, accept faults and defeat and be benevolent winners. A recent study shows that shows that sports can improve the 4 dimensions (Spiritual, Physical, Mental and Social Health) to well being of girls and young women:

Playing sports helps girls do better in school. Girls, who play sports, are better at organizing, setting priorities, designating time, performing better in Mathematics and Science. Playing sports improve learning and memory function, concentration (all of this improves academics). It’s a common notion that sports will take up all your study time. But research shows that girls who play sports are capable of finishing school than who don’t.

2) Finer psychological health

Working with coaches, trainers, and teammates to win games and meet goals is great practice for success later in life. Being a team player can make it easier to work with others and solve problems, whether on the field or in the workplace. Playing sports helps girls emotionally and psychologically. They carry higher self – esteem, better self – image, more self – confidence and lower rates of depression.

3) Improved physical health

The health benefits of playing sports for girls are many. Playing sports have long term benefits like reduced risk of developing breast cancer. Sometimes, you may be reluctant to hit the gym and work out. But when it comes to playing a sport, you will enthusiastically go to the field because you’re well aware that your coach/trainer and teammates rely on you and your performance on the field/court. The end results are: better self-reported health, fewer chronic diseases like asthma or arthritis, increased stamina, reduced risk of obesity thus reduced risk of heart disease, healthier PMSing, stronger bones thus reduced risk of osteoporosis.

4) Better social life

Girls who participate in sports feel better about themselves, both physically and socially. This helps to build confidence when you see your skills improving and your goals becoming reality. Other advantages of playing sports are being in good physical shape, maintaining a healthy weight, and making new friends. Apart from your clas mates, you’re exposed to new friends both on the field and off the field. Taking up sports and representing your team/school leads to you being more popular and enjoying the silver light among your peers. You not only are happy and proud of yourselves but also inspire other girls like you to follow their dreams.

Tensions are a part of our daily life. Playing sports can help you face the tensions, since they are an obvious mood changer and a great way to release tensions and fight depression. Because when you play a sport, your brain releases chemicals which improve your state of mind and makes you happier.
