After a roller coaster first season which saw Pro Wrestling League (PWL) record high numbers amidst hoopla and brouhaha around the unprofessionalism attached to it, the PWL Season-2 got off to an interesting start with a glitzy fashion show.

The fashion show had a turban theme and saw the Wrestling stars get off the mat and walk the ramp in ethnic, designer wear to give a different perspective altogether. This is the first of its kind opening show for a league in the country.

Taj Mahal Hotel in Delhi played witness to history as the first-off fashion show opening announced the arrival of a bigger, better Pro Wrestling League Season-2 which is set to go ahead between December 15, 2016 and January 14, 2017. In further modification, the second season would see more dhamaka with 2 franchisees added to the roster to make it an 8 team affair.

Announcing a champion lineup, the likes of Olympic Bronze medalist Sakshi Malik, Yogeshwar Dutt, Sofia Mattson of Sweden and Mariya Stadnik of Azerbaijan along with Common Wealth Games medallist Yana Rattigan, Geeta Phogat, Babita Kumari walked the ramp for designers like Rohit Bal, JJ Vallaya, Ashish Soni and Rohit Gandhi.

Though the concept was unique and something that got a lot of eyes turning towards it, what could have been even more interesting would’ve been a sports fashion show with designers putting together a sports based collection that could then have also been used as the PWL official merchandise.

Having said that, PWL season-2 has struck the right first note and begun on the right note with an innovative and unique concept. Given it is coming on the back of news claiming the league to be scrapped off after a horrendous first season in terms of organizing, blips and non-payment of salaries, resulting into a tag of unprofessionalism attached to it.

The other big news comes in the form of the participation. While Yogeshwar Dutt was seemingly looking set to miss the second edition, was present at the event and dropped a hint of continuing with his participation. Another big news comes in the form of world beater Sofia Mattson who pulled out last season post the auction reportedly owing to her strict schedule in the run-up to the Olympics in Rio.

Getting back to the event to announce the Pro Wrestling League season 2, it wasn’t just confined to the wrestlers. WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan and star WWE star from India Khali were also present at the event and graced the occassion to add more flavor and variety to the already unique event.

Next up on the list is the auctions for this season to add further excitement to the buildup for season-2. If reports are to be believed, the auctions would take place around the mid of this month and set it up for a month of excitement.

We’ll get you more action from the auctions. Till then, get sporty, get better. Pick a sport and make your days count.
