Confused About Which Supplement To Take? Read More Here!

  • April 23, 2019

There is a lot of debate around ‘whether supplements are good for you or not’. Some people are of the belief that your body does not need any additional supplements and that what we eat from natural sources are more than enough to fuel one’s self.

But on the other hand, there are people like athletes and sportsmen who feel that they require additional supplements to help in supporting their body as their body goes through a lot of physical wear and tear.

Athletes do believe they need supplements and they are not wrong. One can only eat a limited amount and that may not be enough to help an athlete recover or be in top form.

Here is a list of supplements commonly taken by athletes:

#1. Multivitamins:

Multivitamins is something that is good not just for athletes, but also for regular people. It does not make you put on muscle, but it does make you lead a healthier life. Multivitamins should contain vitamin C, A, D, E and K, all the B vitamins, Zinc, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium.

These are important for us as they help us in having a healthier balance to life and these different minerals and vitamins play different roles that are beneficial

#2. Whey Protein:

Protein is a very important thing for all athletes. It is not just for bodybuilders and people who want to bulk. Protein is what is needed for recovery in the body. It helps our body to recover from all the wear and tear of physical training that our body undergoes.

There is a big argument about whether whey protein supplements are good or not.

Whey is basically the water that separates from the milk while making the curd.

#3. Fish Oils:

Fish oils is basically Omega 3, which does a lot of good for you. It does much more than fuel your muscles. They are important for good cardiovascular health and regulate your hormones too. They say it helps in supplementing your mental health too.

#4. BCAAs( Branched Chain Amino Acids):

BCAAs are a group of 3 essential amino acids that are taken to boost muscle growth and enhance performance. They help in reducing fatigue post-exercise. This is very common with athletes as they use it after they finish their workout.

#5. Vitamin D:

Vitamin D is very essential for maintaining healthy bones. This is so important for athletes as they need to have strong bones to be able to perform their entire career.

Going out in the sun and exposing yourself to the sun is the best way to get in your daily dose of vitamin D. But what about in the winter? That’s when athletes take Vitamin D supplements.

Conclusion:

Taking supplements should be monitored and recommended by your coach or doctor. Going overboard with supplements can do more harm than damage.

There have been times when my failure at something discouraged me from going back to it. But I’ve noticed that this doesn’t apply to me when it comes to sports.
