Do You Have Vitamin D Deficiency?

  • July 1, 2022

Vitamin D Deficiency | Have you been waking up tired regardless of how many hours of sleep you get? Or have you been sleeping throughout the day multiple times cause you feel drowsy? Or is it a mix of both?

The reason for this might be a deficiency of vitamin D. Vitamin D is a nutrient and a hormone. It helps the body absorb calcium, phosphate and magnesium. This means a lack of this vitamin can lead to more than a few problems in the body.

Symptoms of Vitamin D Deficiency

Spotting a lack of this nutrient is imperative, as it helps keep the body functioning healthily. Mentioned below are some of the more common symptoms of vitamin D deficiency.

  • Fatigue
  • Pain in the bones
  • Muscle Cramps
  • Drowsiness

This could also entail a recurring need to sleep at odd hours during the day. Along with constant tiredness, some might experience mood swings and can even fall into a depressive state.

Causes of Vitamin D Deficiency
The root cause of your deficiency can be only explained by a doctor. However, being a nutrient that is mostly found in oily fish, your diet could possibly be a reason.

Eating egg yolks, red meat and fish like salmon and sardine can boost your Vitamin D deposit. Sunlight is also a good source of this nutrient. Being outside in the sun daily for upwards of 10 minutes ensures that you feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle anything that may come your way, all day, every day.

If you’re already following all of these, but still feel tiredness, it is best to consult a doctor. But recent studies have shown that there is something else that just might do the trick.

Can Sports Increase Vitamin D?

While the exact reason for the increment might still be debated, a 2011 Harvard study has shown that athletes or people who play sports regularly have higher amounts of vitamin D. The reason might be that they’re out in the sun a lot more.

People who play sports like football and basketball for 4 hours a week were found to be more healthy, active and productive. In turn, having enough of this nutrient improves their performance as well as Vitamin D increases factors like muscle strength, jump height and velocity among other factors that affect sports.

All of us know that working out in the morning keeps us fresh throughout the day. But it’s not as easy as saying you’ll do it; making working out a lasting habit takes time and a lot more effort. Whereas, playing a sport regularly is something most of us could make a habit out of easily.
